What I've Been Doing So Far to Find Ellie

This is what I have been doing so far to find Ellie (updated as of 1/5/14). Please let me know if you have any other suggestions, or if you have spread the word somehow. I'll list it! Again, thank you for the help.

Oh, and yes, she is chipped and has a collar on (at least as of the last sighting).
  • I post (and update) on the following websites
    • craigslist (pets and lost & found)
    • Facebook
    • reddit (username LostDogInBallard)
      • r/seattle
      • r/dogs
      • r/sealist
      • r/huskies
      • r/seahawks
  • I go to the Seattle Animal Shelter every day, and call their hotline every evening.
  • I checked the King County Human Society in Kent, and PAWS in Lynnwood.
  • My friends and I have taken to driving through Ballard in cars that look like this:

  • A bunch of businesses in the Ballard area are hanging my posters:
  • Created a Twitter account -- @FindEllie and this blog.
    • Constantly asking people to spread the word (#FindEllie).
  • Handed out mini flyers to people at these locations in Ballard: Fred Meyer, Mars Hill Church, the Ballard Market, and Trader Joe's.

  • Drive up and down the streets looking for her and calling her name. Just found out I should NOT be calling her name since she is in a state of flight.
  • Spoke with Jim Branson at Three Retrievers Lost Pet Rescue. We concluded a dog tracker probably wouldn't work since Ellie has crossed over her own path, but we're considering putting up a humane trap.
What else should I be doing? Any tips?

  1. I'd call other shelters in the area, especially Seattle Humane Society. People who find lost dogs in Seattle *should* take them to the Seattle Animal Shelter, but some get confused and go to Seattle Humane.

  2. I'd also ensure if possible that Ellie did indeed backtrack - if she didn't, and kept heading past Red Mill burgers towards Golden Gardens, or into the Locks, or up 32nd NW, that would expand the search west and north (up through Sunset Hill, North Beach, etc). Maybe Jim would reconsider using his tracking dogs if this was case - possibly starting at Red Mill? Also might help to leave flyers at Golden Gardens dog park, as well as with the workers at the Ballard Locks. And if she is hiding somewhere not clearly visible, calling out for her maybe during early morning or other quieter time of day may elicit a response from her?

  3. What about a favorite squeaky toy or whistle? Is that recommended?

  4. My trainer suggests this: stay put in the area, even overnight. Leave articles of clothing for her to home in on your scent. Ellie is circling around trying to find you, so better for you to stay in one place where she can find you. We are thinking about you.

  5. Are there people walking around looking for her?

  6. Twitter post last night (https://twitter.com/FindEllie) that Ellie was hit by a car in front of Iman's Market/Habitude. She did not make it :(
