Sad News

I have sad news to report.

Last night, around 5:15pm, Ellie was hit by a car. People saw and immediately picked her up and called me. I was there within a minute or two. I rushed her to the closest vet. Unfortunately, it was too late.

My heart is breaking right now.

The one thing that gives me some amount of peace of mind is knowing that so many people were looking for her. Really. A whole neighborhood. You guys blew me away with your concern and willingness to help. Dog people are the best.

I'm still in a state of shock, but I will be writing a final update to be posted on MyBallard and the Ballard News Tribune soon.

Again, thank you all for your help.

What I've Been Doing So Far to Find Ellie

This is what I have been doing so far to find Ellie (updated as of 1/5/14). Please let me know if you have any other suggestions, or if you have spread the word somehow. I'll list it! Again, thank you for the help.

Oh, and yes, she is chipped and has a collar on (at least as of the last sighting).
  • I post (and update) on the following websites
    • craigslist (pets and lost & found)
    • Facebook
    • reddit (username LostDogInBallard)

      • r/dogs
      • r/sealist

  • I go to the Seattle Animal Shelter every day, and call their hotline every evening.
  • I checked the King County Human Society in Kent, and PAWS in Lynnwood.
  • My friends and I have taken to driving through Ballard in cars that look like this:

  • A bunch of businesses in the Ballard area are hanging my posters:
  • Created a Twitter account -- @FindEllie and this blog.
    • Constantly asking people to spread the word (#FindEllie).
  • Handed out mini flyers to people at these locations in Ballard: Fred Meyer, Mars Hill Church, the Ballard Market, and Trader Joe's.
  • Drive up and down the streets looking for her and calling her name. Just found out I should NOT be calling her name since she is in a state of flight.
  • Spoke with Jim Branson at Three Retrievers Lost Pet Rescue. We concluded a dog tracker probably wouldn't work since Ellie has crossed over her own path, but we're considering putting up a humane trap.
What else should I be doing? Any tips?

Ellie the Lost Dog

Ellie went missing on January 2, 2014 in Ballard (a neighborhood in Seattle, WA). She jumped out of her owner's car at the Majestic Bay Theatre (2044 NW Market St, Seattle, WA) and sprinted south, toward the Swedish Medical Center.

Ellie is a mutt -- best guess a terrier/beagle mix. She is 24 lbs and about 2 feet tall.
