Sad News

I have sad news to report.

Last night, around 5:15pm, Ellie was hit by a car. People saw and immediately picked her up and called me. I was there within a minute or two. I rushed her to the closest vet. Unfortunately, it was too late.

My heart is breaking right now.

The one thing that gives me some amount of peace of mind is knowing that so many people were looking for her. Really. A whole neighborhood. You guys blew me away with your concern and willingness to help. Dog people are the best.

I'm still in a state of shock, but I will be writing a final update to be posted on MyBallard and the Ballard News Tribune soon.

Again, thank you all for your help.

  4. I am so so sorry to hear about this. I am living in California now but am previously from seattle and saw my friend post this to FB and i shared it and followed along as well. I cant imagine the pain you are in, Dog people are the best people because our dogs give us so much love for what seems like not too much from us. Its hard to be a negative person when you have a dog that loves you so much. You are in my thoughts and prayers through this difficult time, and know that any dog lover would understand and will always be there for you.

  5. I'm tearing up reading the news. I've been on the lookout for Ellie and every morning I came here hoping to hear good news. I am so very sorry for your loss. I have two furry children (cats) and I totally understand how devastated you must feel. You're not alone in your grief.

  11. The support of people in the community have made this incredibly tough time a little more bearable. It is so generous to offer to make a donation in Ellie's name. If you want to, the best place is Homeward Trails, a Maryland/DC/Virginia group that rescues dogs and cats from high kill shelters and places them in foster homes until they are adopted. It's the group that rescued Ellie and her five puppies from a high kill shelter in West Virginia: http://www.homewardtrails.org/help-out/donate-money/.
